If I had to say it would probably be The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison and Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston. I like books that have a lesson I could take away from or books that have topics that I'm interested about.

happyvampyre wrote:I've read the Gemma Doyle series and I beg to differ. It drags a LOT and there are huge plot holes. And the third book was a major let down. I was so angry at the end...
The only thing that sorted out the end for me was the author's statement that she was following old school literary conventions, but I think it's sort of problematic that you have to know the convention for the ending to make sense. Otherwise yeah, the end is a giant thematic mess.

/end rant

Ok, as to books I love, love, love:
Ella Enchanted is one of my fave books ever (the companion not so much-it's terrible)
I'm am completely in love with everything Lloyd Alexander has ever written, especially the Prydain and Westmark series and for some reason The Marvelous Misadventures of Sebastien (even though it's bittersweet).
A totally random fave is "The Witch of BlackBird Pond", which gets better on rereads, and I spent a few years in HP fandom, so I think it gets fave status by default.
