Once upon a time there was a girl named Natalia. She was sixteen years of age with hair that was the color of Raven wings and eyes of the purest gold. People always commented on how beautiful her eyes are and she was admired by the girls of her school. But there's a secret she held: she's part elven. Her mom is a mundane, her dad a exile from the elves. He was a person of a high rank among the elves, which explains her golden eyes, not green. Her father had been missing for many years. Her last memory of him was that day, eleven years ago, when that drunk driver had hit her. By all accounts Natalia should have died, but somehow she had lived. She woke up in her bed afterwards, not knowing what had happened in front of her own eyes. In the morning, she found out that her dad had gone missing since that day. Even though she had been through such a tragedy she was adopted in by her aunt and lived a happy life. She had made many friends, but two of which were her best friends. Linali also a girl of sixteen years of age, with hair that was as black as the Midnight sky on a new moon day with tints of dark ocean blue and eyes that were the darkest purest purple. Then there was Kyle a boy of eighteen years of age, with hair white as snow and eyes of blood red. Although Natalia didn't want it to show she loved Kyle very much. He was the only boy that wasn't scared of her sharp eyes and sharper tongue, although there were times that Kyle's crimson eyes scared her with their vibrant intensity. His anger was always too strong. She wanted to save him from his anger but did not know how, she wanted to see him smile because she had only witnessed this once before in a photo of him before "it" happened.
Kyle had been softer, even somewhat kind, before that day that Natalia, Linali and Kyle had gone for a walk at midnight, just to show that they could be bad-ass, and Kyle (who had been walking about three steps behind the laughing girls) had vanished. Neither Natalia nor Linali knew where he had gone. They only knew that he had come back angry. Little did they know the horrors he had wittnessed. Fire and fear and laughter and insanity. The things that made up children's nightmares. Hell. Kyle often went back to the place where he had found the gates of hell, but it was never there again after that night, he never told the others what he had seen. Something within him knew it had been meant for his eyes alone; that in some sick and twisted way, it had been a gift. But gifts always had a way of becoming a curse, for one day when Kyle was waiting again, Natalia caught him watching for the gates. He stammered something about looking for something, but as he was lying, the Hellgates opened again. Kyle ran for the smell of brimstone and fire, addictive as heroin, but Natalia had beaten him there, falling headfirst into the flame, Kyle just behind. This had not been the return he had imagined.
They were falling for what seemed like an eternity, and when they finally stopped falling, Natalia looked around, and then at Kyle. She screamed. Beasts were gathered all around her, their eyes filled curious and vicious fire. They danced about her, curious and chattering, their black wings obscuring her view. When they took sight of Kyle there curiousity dyed down, and assumed that Natalia would be the new Queen of the Underworld to match the power of Kyle. The beasts bowed to thir new leaders, and they left them alone. Natalia turns to Kyle, and he smiles, both for her and for his newfound happiness, a tone that he hasn't felt in weeks.
"It's okay," he says. "This is home."
Even though Natalia loves Kyle, she doesn't belong in hell. She is half elven and needed sunlight to live.
Natalia told Kyle that she could not stay with him that she would die, and when doing so she saw somthing in his eyes she had never seen before, he was hurt. He grabed and kissed her quickly, the kiss tasted of sweet raw passion and Natalia felt as if her heart would stop right then an there. Before she could say anything the black winged beast where carrying her out of the gates of hell, before she left she heard Kyle say through his anger "You will come back, You will be mine"
Natalia was thrust outside the gate brutally by the demon. She streched out herhand to Kyle as the gate started to close. She couldn't even say goodbye to him and that made her tar into the space where the gate had been.
Blindly, she stumbled home through the night, dazed and grieved, collapsing on her driveway and ignoring the gravel that dug into her cheek. Slowly, her eyelids fluttered closed, and the darkness overwhelmed her mind as she slept. She awoke to sunlight and the smell of lilies, a sharply angled face with pointed ears hovering nervously above her.
It was her Father.
He looked so much more healthy than he had the last time she had seen him, his cheeks sunken and eyes dull. Now he fairly radiated life, his face a healthy tan and unable to sit still. Natalia then realized where she must be, and elven haven.
knowing where she is, she also then knows who she really is, a half elf, who's a total opposite of Kyle and thought, even if she loves him so much, there's no way they can be together.
Her emotions were a torrent, a chaotic whirl. Her heart was wrent in two, because of her love for Kyle, and joy at knowing what she was, and finally seeing her father again. Her father snapped her out of her reveire when his hand touched her cheek and smiled a smile of pure joy, as if a child.
She looks at her father for one long moment before hugging him, happy he survived. But as she hugs him, she silently wipes away the tear shed for her heart's love.
"Daughter..." Natalia's father whispered into her hair. "You have finally returned to me. Now, you can be where you were meant to be."
Natalia rewoke on the hard gravel of her drive way dazed and confussed she begain to walkaway from the sunset, for she did not want to be alone at night.
She wandered into the hall of her home, not even bothering to make sure the door closed all the way, not caring that the cool air was escaping into the humid night air. She stumbled her way into the kitchen. Her converses skidded and slipped on the white linoleum floor, and she crashed to the ground. She stared at the coating of sticky red upon her hands, trying not to comprehend that the blood came from her mother's shattered body lying upon the floor beside her. While she was still in shock from seeing her mother's dead body, a cold laugh came from somewhere and was echoing thoughout the house. That exact moment Kyle appeared at the kitchen door with a smile that made Natalia froze for a moment.
"K-Kyle?" Natalia whispered, not wanting to understand what was so obvious. "Why are you here?"
Kyle's smile was chilling as he stepped forward. "Aw, c'mon Natalia. Don't act like you're stupid, we both know you're not."
"Let me indulge in stupidity for one second," she says, stepping forward. "What the hell did you do to my MOM?!?" She punches his jaw, and he doesn't even flinch.
"Come back with me, Natalia, my rose," he says softly. He reaches out with one hand, dripping red. He toches her face, caressing it. She flinches.
Hurt transformed Kyle's monstrous expression for a moment, calming it, giving it a trace of humanity. And Natalia used his moment of weakness to her full advantage, running out the kitchen door, onto the patio, and into the woods beyond. The sound of pursuing footsteps echoed her thundering heartbeat, drawing ever closer, ever faster... Until a low hanging branch snatched her from the ground, the tree folding in upon itself, its branches gently cradling Natalia until the dawn light kissed her face.
Kyle comes out, then, the sunlight giving him his human features back, making him look like the Kyle she used to know, the one she loved. But when he kisses her cheek, she knows that she still has some love for him.
However, her protective tree was not as kind. The branches snapped as a whip, knocking Kyle to the ground, releasing Natalia to allow an unatural wind snatch her up and deposit her in a glade, an elven haven.
She stands up, to see her father once again. She pinches herself, but she finds it's not a dream. She really sees her father in front of her. She runs to him, and her hugs her.
He smells of moss and things long forgotten. His flaxen hair is long and soft, his eyes the same gold as hers. It is only at that moment that she realizes that she has been lonely, homesick, waiting, but is no longer, for she is home.
"Natalia, my girl!" He says, picking her up like she weighed nothing, spinning her around. She laughs, and starts to forget the scene she witnessed.
Slowly her heart heals in the dappled sunlight, and she begins to notice the elves watching her with nothing but curiosity in their eyes. No hostility, no possessivenes. Just curiosity.
Natalia smiles at them, going over to them. She immediately liked these elves. Curiosity was a refreshing experience in her life.
"I am Natalia," she says to them. They all go over to her, smiling with delight at this new face in their grove.
No elves had been born in decades, attacks from the few humans that knew of their existence and the dark beings dissuaded romance.
Other elvens decided to throw a party for Natalia, yet Natalia can't seem to shake the uneasiness that she just felt a while ago, that her intuition tells her something bad is going to happen, just like that time happening with the drunk driver.
Her heartbeats faster, her vision swims, and heat begins to creep across her skin. She realizes that the warmth is not just in her mind; a fire is drawing near. She runs towards the heat, both to stop it and to enter it. She realizes that this is the human part of her, and she wonders if her mother is truly human. In the moment that she slowed to think, her father's hands grabbed her arms, keeping her from the blaze deep within the forest. Swiftly, he muttered strange words that made the hairs on Natalia's arms stand up; words of power and might.
She could feel the heat subsiding, but she longed to go with it, yet she wanted to stay still. She fought with her father, trying to break free. Suddenly it was the fire that broke free. The elves protected themselves from the heat, and in the hurry to save himself, her father let her go. This gave her enough time to run towards the blaze, feeling a part of her dissolve in the intense heat that seemed to welcome her.
Ebon fangs and claws glinted in the blaze, startling Natalia out of her reviere. She fell backwards screaming out a mash of sounds that came trailing into her mind. The fire blazed brighter than ever before, and then vanished with a shrill scream. She heard a laugh she knew before passing out.
She woke suddenly in her father's lap. SHe was being cradled like a small baby, and when her father saw her wake up, a tear ran down his cheek.
"What's the matter?" She asks him, oblivious to the crowd surrounding them.
"Your mother just died." says Natalia's father. So her dream of her mother in a puddle of blood, turns out to be that? Her human mind refuses to believe it, yet her father keeps on hugging her even tighter causing her to cry loud and even louder causing the elven haven to mourn as well from her scream of tears. Part of her knows who exactly would do such thing to her mother, yet deep down she still wants to believe in everything, including 'him'.
